Don’t tell me the pictures I have recently taken  all around me  don’t prove the under-title of this blog: “Small Bohemian Steps to World Domination” :) :) :)

CZ: Nerikejte mi, ze tyto fotky nejsou dukazem podtitulu tohoto blogu: “Small Bohemian Steps to World Domination” :) :) :)

1. The word “VODA” means “WATER” in Czech.

2. The word “Ahoy” is pretty much a misspelled Czech word “Ahoj” which means “HI”. And the same thing goes for the word “Matey”! Substitute ‘y’ for ‘j’ and you will get a Czech name “Matej”. Am I missing some Czech cartoon that’s going around and the main hero Matej is being printed on American t-shirts?!

To my surprise, my drawings of Prague/CR were quite the hit last time so I am coming back with more! I have also been working on a new hand-knitted bag (for about 3 days and nights straight), which is decorated with the cutest Czech lion buttons. If no one buys it pretty soon, sorry it’s mine :)

The first time I heard the song “Windows are open” by Amos Lee on the radio, my brain almost had a mini-stroke. At first it was telling me that’s the Czech singer Michal Tucny. But then, a few seconds later, the hard reality hit. “Wait, he is singing in English, that must be someone else!”. I restlessly waited for the end of the song to find out who the artist was. And that’s how I found out about Amos Lee.

The funny thing is that not only their voices are almost identical but the song has a very similar melody (especially at the beginning) when you compare it to Michal Tucny’s song called “Abych tu zil”. See for yourself and you will see! It’s amazing!!!!
CZ: Michal Tucny ma dvojnika!!!! Dokonce i ty jejich pisnicky (tedy alespon tahle) zni velmi podobne! Mrnete na vido Amose Lee a pak si poslechnete Michala Tucneho, pisnicku “Abych tu zil”. No nemam pravdu?

This is one of those sentimental posts again so get your handkerchiefs ready. Here are some of those top runners who back then broke almost every girl’s heart:

CZ: Pripravte si kapesnicky, jdeme si zavzpominat na hitovky z roku 1985. Kvuli komu ze budete v pristich peti minutach ronit slzy (nebo naopak dostanete zachvat smichu)? Tady je jen par jmen k pripomenuti:

  • Pavel Hornak
  • Karel Gott
  • Michal David
  • Elan
  • and others…..

Last night I took a long look at our fat cat. And then I started thinking about how did she become so fat (we give her the same food but then she is getting older…) and that train of thought made me ask myself: “Who eats cats?”. Certain nations eat dogs but I had no clue about cats. So I asked my smart husband and he didn’t know either. And so we started a long quest that took us days to accomplish….just kidding! If you say ‘To je skoda‘ in Czech it means ‘That’s a shame‘ or ‘That’s too bad‘ or simply just imagine a sad face. The word ‘skoda‘ means ‘loss‘ or ‘harm‘ or ‘injury‘; but it is also the name of the biggest Czech car company which cranks out a new Skoda model almost every year. Why would someone name a car ‘Skoda’ or “Harm” is beyond my comprehension but it did not seem to slow down the business a bit. [click to continue…]
