house arrest google imageA house-arrest sentence is a very new thing in the Czech Republic. It used to be that you go to jail or you don’t go to jail and house arrest was left for the disobedient kids. Petr Boruvka informs us about the very first felon who was given such an ‘awful’ punishment. Read about him right here.

Proc? Duvod si prectete zde.

November 17th marked the first day of the visa-free status for Czechs. It sounds great, but what does this Visa Waiver Program (VWP) really mean for us? What do those relatives need to do in order for them to visit us in the US ?

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) permits Czechs (and Slovaks) to visit the USA (and other 26  designated countries listed bellow) for 90 days using their passports without getting a visa. They can also use their former valid visas to do so. The VWP works only for for business trips and short term tourist-like visits, it DOES NOT substitute for the study or work visas. For Czechs who would like to do so (study or work in the US), they still have to apply for the proper visa through the US Embassy in the Czech Republic. [click to continue…]

According to the latest prognosis, Czechs should be able to travel to the US visa-free starting November 17th (which is also the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution), which is less than 2 months away! The Czech prime minister is planning on visiting Washington in late October to not only discuss the U.S. missile defense radar base but also to sign the 2 remaining agreements necessary for the visa-free travel status. The first agreement deals with the cooperation with the US center in terrorism threats and the second one concerns the exchange of information about the people who were convicted of serious crimes in the past. Did you know that since the year 2000 only 277 kids have been adopted by foreign parents? Why so little of them? Compared to the parents of other nationalities, the Czech biological parents tend to be very picky as to who gets their child. They require almost a warranty, which guarantees them that their child will be always healthy, extremely talented, get good marks at school and go to the university. [click to continue…]

passport yahoo imageIf you help us find terrorists good things will happen for you…” That is pretty much the summary of the treaty that the USA signed with eight, USA-friendly states, Czech Republic included. Once all the American safety requirements are completed – which should be as early as October of this year – the Czech tourists will not need a visa to travel to the US. The traveling permission will be given out via the electronic system called the ESTA. [click to continue…]

thief yahoo imageAccording to the Eurostat‘s new statistical data the Czech Republic rates as one of the safest countries of the European Union. Surprisingly, the most dangerous EU states are:

Czech flag yahoo imageUp until recently I have always thought that the Czech Republic allows you to have a dual citizenship. WRONG (with a few exeptions) !!. And here is why…..

Az do nedavna jsem si myslela, ze Ceska republika dovoluje dvoji obcanstvi. Chyba lavky (az na par vyjimek)…

WHAT IS A DEFINITION OF CZECH CITIZENSHIP?

According to the Jus sanguinis (“right of blood” in Latin) principles the Czech citizen at birth is a descendant of a Czech parent.

  • it does not matter if that person is born in the Czech Republic or abroad
  • if the parents are not married and only the father is Czech, a proof of paternity is required
  • babies born in the Czech Republic to foreign parents do not get Czech citizenship unless the parents are stateless or have a permanent resident card [click to continue…]

marriage yahoo imageGood news! As it is stated in www.krajane.net, ” Czechs who acquired a new citizenship via marrying a foreigner, still have the right to keep their Czech citizenship”. This decision was released by the Supreme Court (NSS) in 2003. The NSS judge, Lenka Kaniova, explains their decision accordingly: “Novelties such as the European citizenship, globalization and today’s integrated trends lead the world toward a new outlook on the issue of dual citizenship”. Despite this decision, the Czech courts are still overflowing with cases futuring dual citizenship issues. Those people, however, received the additional citizenship before the new law was implemented.

CZ: Dobra zprava!
