Czech ‘breakfast’ special: leco / Leco: ‘snidane’ po cesku

leco image/www.czechmatediary.com imageLECO (pronounced ‘lecho’) is a delicious traditional Czech/Slovak meal. Since it has an egg in it I am afraid that most Americans would eat it just for breakfast which is a shame. We used to have it for lunch or dinner but never breakfast!!! If you like, you can ease into it by adding some American-style cilantro (blah!) or avocado (yum!).

Ingredients:

Method:

  1. On a frying pan saute the onion and green pepper until slightly done
  2. Add sausage and keep cooking the mixture over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes
  3. Add the tomatoes and simmer for 10 minutes
  4. Stir in the 2 eggs
  5. Serve with rye bread

Dobrou Chut!!!

If you liked this post buy me a coffee! (Suggested:$3 a latte $8 for a pound) Thanks!

Yes, the breakfast must be really good and big…
There goes a saying: “Eat breakfast yourself, eat lunch with friends and your dinner give to enemy ….

To jses hodna, Evo, ze jsi mi chytila muj preklep; rozhodne anglicky neprestanu psat, mozna ze do toho pridam i slovenstinu πŸ™‚ Jeste jednou dik!

Eva, do you know the expression “Aged to perfection” ?
We all are so young πŸ™‚

We grow our own tomatoes and bell peppers. There is nothing better than leco made from home grown vegetables with fresh loaf of bread from Costco.

Tani super recept. Milujem leco a aj moj manzel.
Anglictinu mas uple perfektnu a som rada, ze pises v obidvoch jazykoch.

The last comment was supposed to target “Marika” not “Vlastimil” ;))

    Hi Tanja,

Another good recipe. I’ve made this dish before, but I thought it was something I created myself! It makes me smile to know it’s also a traditional dish. πŸ™‚ I put kielbasa and onions in everything.

I often sprinkle a little cheese on top- it’s really good that way.

  • lenka July 14, 2009, 4:36 pm

Hmm, leco uz jsem dlouho nemela. A je pravda ze detstvi bych si bez nej nedokazala predstavit. Diky Tanjo ze nas tak hezky informujes.

  • Tanja July 14, 2009, 4:37 pm

Thanks Bel! Kielbasa and onions are a life-saver!!! …put some potatoes in it or serve it with rice and you have a delicious meal! Not sure if it’s that healthy though πŸ˜‰

Trochu toho, trochu tamtoho a mame tradici. Co Cech, to kutil. At uz jde o cokoliv. πŸ™‚ Kdo si pamatuje na knoflikovou polevku. Ale spise se ji rikalo topurkova.

  • Petra July 15, 2009, 5:26 pm

Asi to budu muset zkusit uvarit, protoze ted by mi urcite chutnalo!!!
A take souhlasim s Lenkou!

To vubec neznam! To jsem Cech vid!
