Top 10 Czech restaurants for 2009 / Nejlepsi ceske restaurace pro rok 2009

Pavel Maurer, a celebrity Czech gourmet cook, recently released his list of the best restaurants in the Czech Republic for the year 2009. This may be a very valuable information for those of us who are planning on visiting Czech next year (which is next month!!) . Prague has currently about zillion of restaurants so it is good to have a little guide:

1. Radisson SAS hotel, Alcron Prague 1
2. La Degustation Boheme Bourgeoisie, Prague 1
3. Obecni Dum, Francouzska restaurace, Prague 1

4. Rialto Ristorante, Brno
5. V Zatisi, Prague 1
6. Bellevue, Prague 1
7. Radisson SAS hotel, La Rotonde, Prague 1
8. Le Terroir, Prague 1
9. U Kastelana, Brno
10. Four Seasons hotel, Allegro Prague 1

It is kind of interesting though that all of the restaurants are in Prague 1 or Brno. I think that Mr. Maurer ought to travel a little more.

Another guide I trust is the My Czech Republic’s restaurant reviews which you can find right here.

If you are not interested in Czech restaurants because you have your own lunchbeg with you at all times and would rather get some good Czech beer or an awesome esspresso read about  “The Best Places to hang out in Czech”.

My personal recommendation are 2 really good places:

  • Restaurant Platyz (right by Narodni Trida, Prague 1) – very good and very affordable
  • Restaurant Stoleti (Nerudova Street, Prague 1) –  a little more upscale but definitely worth it

Do you have a your favorite Czech restaurant that you always go to when you are in Czech or Slovakia?

Dalsi podobny list, kteremu verim, je “My Czech Republic’s restaurant guide”, ktery najdete zde. Jestlize vas restaurace nezajimaji, ale spise patrate po dobrem baru nebo kavarnicce, prectete si muj clanek na “The Best places to hang out in Czech”.

Ja osobne doporucuji restaurace “Platyz” (Narodni Trida) a “Stoleti“(Nerudova ul.) – obe jsou v Praze 1; Stoleti je trosku vic “upscale” nez Platyz, ale jidlo stoji za to.

A co vy? Mate nejakou oblibenou restauraci v Cechach nebo na Slovensku, kam se vzdycky radi vracite?

Pavel Maurer; I’m sure he’s an excellent cook (and a celebrity in Czech Republic!) and is probably aiming at a certain crowd for his picks, but even as a middle-class American, knowing most of the places are in Prague 1 or are Western hotel restaurants, the restaurants he has chosen are expensive. And in Prague 1? Lots of restaurants are tourist traps!

Most of the time, I just follow where the construction workers go to eat, at a cafeteria, where you could get something for 25-40 Kc. My favorite was drstkova polevka!

I always go to the lunch stand that serves drstkova polevka, koleno, a brambory salat, that’s underground in the Muzeum metro, U Rudolfa II (Prague 3, Korunni 67), if I wanted to show visiting friends an old fashioned Czech restaurant/pub; Staropramen (has their own restaurant! hehe) on Lidická 406/41, Prague 5 that’s more fancy traditional Czech food, but at still, very reasonable prices.

Of course, the best is when a Czech friend invites you over for vanonce, and the babicka makes dinner for you. ;D

You can find alot of great restaurants away from Stare Mesto. I don’t know why Pavel Maurer had to choose those 10.

    Hi Ernest,

thank you so much for your tips! I haven’t even heard about these restaurants myself, so I gotta make sure that I visit these places when I go back to Czech.

Tanja, do you stay in US illegally without visa? There are thousand Czechs living in US illegally. Do you hope in amnesty for Czech illegal aliens next year?

Thanks for this! I’ve been reading over at the Brainwave Entrainment Forums, and seeing this post was the perfect confirmation for much of the information I found out. 🙂
