ECO-friendly Czech Republic: Multilevel garage for bicycles / Ekologicke Cechy: parkovaci dum pro kola

I knew that the Czech Republic is very bicycle-friendly but I had no idea stuff like this was going on – czech this out! A city in the Czech Republic called Hradec Kralove decided to built a huge muli-level, super ecological and super hi-tech garage for bikes. Here are the features:

  • it can take up to 116 bikes
  • bike will be automatically taken up by an elevator and automatically parked in its assigned spot
  • bike will be safe from bad weather and thieves

Any biker will be able to park his bike there for only 5 Czech crowns which is a very good price.

Nasledujici clanek me ale opravdu (mile) zaskocil. V Hradci Kralove totiz stavi cely garazovy dum pro kola! Pouhych 5 korun!

If you liked this post buy me a coffee! (Suggested:$3 a latte $8 for a pound) Thanks!

As usual, Czechs are ahead of the times, like the Japanese 😉

Zajimave!

I must say Helsinki seemed much more bike-friendly to me during my very short visit there recently. They may not have biking paths on Senaatintori (their Old Town Square), but very nearly. They’re everywhere in the city (very nice for wheelchair users, too, BTW, as there were some in our group and it was easy for them to cross streets on the bike paths). And there were loads of bikes parked in front of the university, something I have yet to see in the Czech Republic.

I bet they would use this garage more then the Czechs will. But maybe this will make Czechs to be more proactive in that way.
