One of the best goalies in the history of NHL ,Dominik Hasek, announced on Monday that we was retiring from hockey. He began to play for NHL (Chicago Blackhawks) in 1990 and over his 18-year long career Dominik managed to win the Stanley Cup (twice!), the NHL’s Hart Trophy (twice!), the Vezina prize for the best goalie (6 times!!) and other trophies. Of course, we cannot forget the fact that he led the Czech Republic to Olympic Gold at Nagano in 1998. I remember that year like it was yesterday. The streets of Prague were filled with thousands of drunk and ecstatic Czechs like never before – one would have thought that we had won the World War or something!
Thanks to his numerous victories Hasek will be the first Czech hockey player included in the Hockey Hall of Fame. He has decided to retire in peace back in Czech with exception of his son who will continue his studies in the US.
Thank you for all your hard work, Dominik!
CZ: Dominik Hasek, jeden z nejlepsich brankaru v hokejove historii, se rozhodl ustoupit z jeho 18-ti lete hokejove kariery. Dominik zacal hrat s NHL v roce 1990, a to s Chicago Blackhawks. I love Hasek! My favourite Hasek story is when his team won the Stanley Cup last time. Him and Jagr returned to Czech with the Cup and then they both got drunk and left the Cup at a bar.
That’s so funny! I didn’t know that! Knowing Czech someone probably stole it 😉
LOL! What is it with Czechs and theft? I don’t get it. Even the Czechs themselves joke about taking things. I found it hilarious when we were there last summer and the moms would leave their babies outside in the buggy while they got a few things in the store. I was shocked, until I was told that no one would steal the buggy with the baby in it.
And it was returned to them. The bartender took it home. Imagine explaining that to his wife.
