Obama is in Prague /Obama je v Praze

Today is i BIG day for the Czechs since Obama and his wife Michelle just flew to Prague for a short (and hopefully sweet) visit. After the official welcome by the Czech president Vaclav Klaus as well as the prime minister Miroslva Topolanek, Obama is planning on having a romantic dinner with his wife at the Golden Well restaurant in the historical center of the city.Sunday will be even a more important day for the Czechs since Obama is planing on giving a public speech in which he is expected to focus on a ‘touchy’ issue of nuclear arms non-proliferation (radar base). About 3o,000 people are expected to come to hear Obama’s speech so the security precautions are ranking very high.

Obama’s visit is an important event for the supporters as well as the objectors of the now controversial anti-missile radar base. A group of about 300 people demonstrated on Palach’s Square against the radar base by dramatically throwing plastic figurines representing the former US president George Bush as well as Condoleezza Rice into the Vltava river. In the evening the same square was filled up with the radar base supporters who were more conservative in their ways of protesting and decided not to polute the river with anything else.

Ceske Noviny made up a poll where they asked readers about ‘which main course would you recommend Obama to have for dinner?’

• 7% said ‘Burty s cibuli’ (sausages with oninons)
• 47% voted for ‘Svickova’ (including myself)
• 18% voted for ‘Vepro-knedlo-zelo’ (Pork, sourcraut and dumplings)
• 6% said ‘Nudle s makem’ ( sweet nudles with poppyseeds)
• 4% marked ‘Kulajda’ (dill stew)
• 18% voted for ‘Kachnu se zelim’ (Roasted duck, dumplings, and sourkraut)

CZ: Do Prahy dnes priletel dlouho ocekavany vzacny host, Americky president Barack Obama. Na letisti ho uvital nejen cesky president Vaclav Klaus ale take Mirek Topolanek. Vecer ceka Obamu soukromy program, kde se s manzelkou chysta  poveceret v romanticke restauraci U Zlate Studne v centru mesta. V nedeli  pak Obama prednese na Hradcanskem namesti dlouho ocekavany projev o jadernem odzbrojeni, ktery ma navstivit az 30,000 divaku!

Navstevu Obamy vyuzili cesti priznivci a odpurci radaru. Skupina 300 starsich lidi zastupujici sdruzeni neradar.cz se sesla na Palachove namesti a shromazdeny dav hodil do Vltavy figuriny znazornujciho predchoziho americkeho presidenta George Bushe a jeho ministrini zahranici Condoleezzu Riceovou. V Podvecer se na Palachove namesti setkali naopak priznivci americkeho radaru, kteri do Vltavy nastesti nic nahazeli.
