Who won the Czech Lion 2008 movie awards ? / Kdo vyhral Ceskeho lva 2008 ?

While the world-known American Academy Awards are by far over with, the Czech-style ‘Oscars’ have found their new owners just couple of days ago. The Cesky Lev 2008 movie awards are not as flashy and crowded as the American ones but that does not mean that they don’t award good movies. The best movie for 2008 became The Karamazovs, a film adapted from a well-known roman by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Movie was directed by a talented director Petr Zelenka, who was also involved with other successful movies such as Samotari (Loners) and Knoflikari (Buttoners). Zelenka also received the Best Director of the Year award for this movie. The Best male actor became Karel Roden (see the picture above) who is also known internationally for some big-production American movies such as Bourne Supremacy or Hellboy. The Best female actress for 2008 became Zuzana Bydzovska (yes! I even remember her!!) for a role in the Country Teacher movie.

This was historically also the first year when the Cesky Lev committee awarded a prize for The Best documentary film. And you will not be surprised if I tell you that the winner was Citizen  Havel :0) Havel, by the way, said very humbly in his short thank you speech that this was a big mistake and that he had done nothing for the movie, just acted like himself the whole time and forgot about any kind of cameras around him :0)

Compared to the sophisticated Cesky Lev judges, the ‘uneducated’ viewers actualy  picked Bathory (directed by a Slovak director Juraj Jakubisko) to be  the best movie 2008 (interesting..)

Nejlepsim ceskym filmem za rok 2008  se stal film Petra Zelenky, Karamazovi; Zelenka napsal/reziroval take dalsi zname ceske trhaky a to napriklad Knoflikari a Samotari. Cenu za nejlepsi muzske vykony ziskal Karel Roden (toho mam rada) za Hlidace c. 47 a nejlepsi zenskou roli vyhrala Zuzana Bydzovska (tu si take jeste pamatuju!) a to za Venkovskeho ucitele.

Vubec poprve se tento rok udilel Cesky Lev za nejlepsi dokumentarni snimek. A hadejte, kdo to vyhral? Obcan Havel! Pri prevzeni ceny Havel rekl:”To musi byt nejaky omyl, ja jsem tento film netocil, ani jsem nevyrobil zadnekostymi…ja jsem byl jen sam sebou a  i jsem zapomnel, ze tu nejake ty kamery kolem mne vubec jsou..”

Cenu za nejuspesnejsi divacky film (nejnavstevovanejsi??) obdrzel film rezisera Juraje Jakubiska, Bathory.
