Brno is a very special Czech city of its own but ever since the last month it has become even a more special. It is a brand new home to the Museum of Exile. It commemorates all of the Czechs and Slovaks who during the 20th century emigrated abroad to escape the evil claws of Nazism and/or communism. The museum idea was inspired mostly by the life of a very talented Czech sculptor, Jan Kratochvil. His father and uncle – two very important figures of the anti-communist underground movement – managed to flee the country in 1948, meanwhile the rest of the Kratochvil family suffered for it very deeply. After his father died in 2001 Jan created an organization called the K2001 to commemorate all those politically oppressed individuals who had no choice but to flee from their motherland and start their life over in some strange new country. Jan started to collect pictures and important documents of other emigrants. He sold most of his private property which was given back to him during a restitution and managed to buy an old pub. This building is now a stable home to all of his precious images and historical documents. So let’s support Jan’s noble duty and whenever you get a chance go visit his Museum of Exile!

Zacal sbirat dalsi exilove dokumenty, z nichz pozdeji uskutecnil vystavu Ceskeho a Slovenskeho exilu 20. stoleti. Chtel ale pro tyto vzacne historicke dokumenty najit staly domov, a proto prodal vetsinu svych nemovitosti, ktere ziskal v restituci a koupil budovu stareho brnenskeho hostince. Zatim do rekonstrukce tohoto musea investoval kolem 11 milionu korun. Tak pojdme podporit tuto vznesenou aktivitu a priste az zavitate do Cech, zajedte si take do Brna – do Muzea Exilu!
