Svejnar is determined to win the Czech Presidental elections / Svejnar je rozhodnuty porazit Klause

A hot candidate for the presidential post, Jan Svejnar, is not wasting time these days. His website reveals some very busy times in the near future. Svejnar is planing to tour the Czech Republic including cities such as Zlin, Ceske Budejovice, Plzen, Brno and others. His main goal is to become more – or at least – equally popular as the current president of CR, Vaclav Klaus. Even though Svejnar was a long-time economy advisory of Vaclav Havel (a former president of CR) the Czechs don’t know him very much. Another drawback on Svejnar’s side as far as his popularity goes, is his dual citizenship. People want him to give up the American citizenship before he can become the president of the Czech Republic. How about his family? How “Czech” are they? Svejnar’s wife, Katherine, is a “full-blooded” American (she also teaches at the University of Michigan), while their children – Dan and Laura – have dual citizenship. Both of them have gone to school in the Czech Republic in 1992: Laura went to the 2nd grade, while Dan attended 4th grade.

Do you think that Svejnar can become the Czech president? With today’s globalization trends I wouldn’t be surprised. True, it would be a little strange at first, having an “americanized” president, but I think that it would bring a lot of good with it.

Co se tyce Svejnarovy rodiny, a jeji “ceskosti”, manzelka Katherine je “cistokrevna” Americanka (take jako Svejnar uci na Universite v Michiganu), zatimco obe deti (Laura a Dan) maji dvoji obcanstvi a cesky mluvit umi. Laura chodila v Cechach do 2. tridy a Dan do 4. tridy.

Myslite si, ze ma Svejnar sanci stat se presientem CR? Ja si myslim, ze s nynejsim trendem globalizace je to velmi mozne. Vubec bych se tomu nedivila. Pravda, bylo by to trosku divne, ale to neznamena, ze by to melo pro Cechy mit negativni nasledky, prave naopak.
