The American moms affirm the trust relationship with their babies through breastfeeding on demand, while some Czech parents do it by juggling their little ones in the air. What do I mean by that? They take a parent-baby course which is called “Baby flying”. The mother (or the dad) hold on to the baby’s arms/legs and variously twist them in the air, all to the sound of loud, dancing music. The course instructor, Blanka Kolarova-Sudikova, claims that besides affirming trust in between him and the parent, baby-flying helps with other problems such as if the baby is colicky or too hyperactive.
This unusual course has had so far about 1,500 graduates and numbers are growing. Only the doctors don’t like it one bit. They say that it can simulate the so-called “Shaken baby syndrome”, which leaves a serious health defect on a baby.

CZ: Mnoho americkych maminek se snazi v jejich miminku utvrdit pocit lasky a bezbeci napriklad zkrze tzv. kojeni na poptavku (feeding on demand). V Cechach k tomu nejaci odvazlivci pridali dalsi trend – tzv. kurzy letani miminek. “Kurzy spocivajji v tom, ze se matky se svymi detmi toci ve vzduchu, otaceji je a ruzne jimi krouti.” Jedna z propagatorek tohoto prazvlastniho sportu tvrdi, ze to pomaha detem pri ruznych obtizich, napriklad pri kolikach, nebo hyperaktivite.
Kurzem “Letani mimnek” proslo jiz kolem 1500 deti a pocet graduantu neustale vzrusta. Jenom doktorum to vubec nezamlouva. Varuji rodice, ze tyto techniky mohou mit pro deti vazne zdravotni dusledky. Pri opakovanem zatreseni a prudkych pohybech celeho tela (zvlaste hlavy), muze snadno dojit k poraneni krcnich obratlu eventualne i michy.

Wow. That is a stunning cultural difference. The most amazing thing is the baby’s face at the end.
What if we tried to take a very expensive vase that the parents were inheriting for centuries and did some of those excercises with that vase instead? I think, the parents would think it would be too risky …..
I did some simplified flying lessons with my babies and when they misbehaved, I always calmed them down by saying: “Poletis oknem…;)” (You will fly through the window..) ..
I know, the baby is happy at the end! Maybe it’s a stuffed baby 🙂
Vlastimil – that is a very good comparison! If you think about it this way the whole thing really doesn’t make sense. By the way, Vlastimil, the course was invented in Russia 😉

To co tady píšeš je naprostá snůška nesmyslů. Jakoby americký matky byly nějak pečující a kojící, zatímco Češky hází mimina jak míče? Většina lidí v Česku je proti téhle skupince potřeštěných bab vedených jakousi alternativní matkou, přečtěte si zprávy a komentáře k tomu a podívejte na tu anketu:

Nejedná se o žádné kulturní rozdíly, každá země má svoje alternativní batikovaný matky, který se nějak liší od většiny.
Jozko, to samozrejme vubec nepisu. Jestli jsi si nevsiml, clanek je pod ‘tag’ ‘weird stuff’, coz znamena ze je to ‘out of the norm’, tedy, ze rodice se takhle normalne nechovaji. Jelikoz se ale snazim ctenare zaujmout, clanek musi byt taky trosku vtipny a zajimavy. Mas pravdu, mela jsem na zacatku pridat ‘smiley face’, aby to lide jako ty nebrali az tak vazne.
