Hurvinek is 82 years old! / Hurvinkovi je 82 let!

A famous Czech puppets, Spejbl and Hurvinek, are celebrating their 82nd birthday this year! Hurvinek and his happy-go-lucky dad Spejbl appeared on stage for the first time in Pilsen in 1920. During the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia both puppets were forbidden to perform and got locked away in some secret Nazi safe. After the war was over Spejbl and Hurvinek moved to Prague where they continue to entertain yet another generation of Hurvinek-hungy children. I remember I used to listen to them on a record (!!) when I was a little kid. Who could forget Hurvinek’s signature expression “Jsem v ryzi” ( the word-by-word translation is “I am in rice“, which means “I am in a big trouble“).

CZ: Veleznama loutkova dvojka Hurinka a Spejbla tento rok slavi sve 82. narozeniny! Poprve se na jevisti objevili v roce 1920 a to v Plzni. Behem Druhe svetove valky bylo jejich vystupovani zakazano a loutky byly behem teto doby zamceny v jakemsi tajnem nacistickem trezoru. Po valce ale otec se synem opet ozili, prestehovali se do Prahy, kde dodnes neprestavaji bavit nadsene detske publikum. Kdo by mohl zapomentou Hurvinkou proslulou frazi “jsem v ryzi”?? Ja ji osobne pouzivam…a to casto.
