Czech policeman murders an American soldier and is free to go / Cesky policajt zavrazdi americkeho vojaka a je propusten na svobodu

Mike Murray was a regular type of a guy. He served in with the US Marines at the German marine base. But his real love was Prague. Since he liked the city so much he would go there almost every weekend. On January 30th he was out with his friends and since he had couple of beers he decided to prevent any kind of trouble and decided to spend the night in his car which was parked on Ceskomoravska street in Prague 9. As he was settling down a drunk Czech policeman off-duty walks by his car and somehow gets flustered about the way Mike’s car is parked. He starts provoking the marine and does it for long enough time that Mike gets out of his car and they get into a heated discussion which turns into a fight. Up to this point the situation isn’t that unusual, right? But then the cop pulls out a knife and stabs Mike 3 times into the heart which causes almost an immediate death. And guess what, a couple of days later, the cop was free to go! It is no wonder that many people are outraged by that court decision and want the murderer to go through a comprehensive trial. The public is worried that the – now former – policeman will leave the country never to face the consequences of the act he committed.

It is common in most of Europe to laugh at the lawsuit-crazed courts of the United States. As crazy as some American court cases may be (serial child molester getting a few months behind bars, women getting millions from Macdonald’s coffee being too hot) the reality is the majority of court decisions are extremely thorough and comprehensive. Hopefully the Czechs will follow their example and give this case a thorough investigation.

CZ: Mike Murray byl normalni mlady kluk, slouzil v Nemecku jako vojak pro Americkou namorni pechotu. Jeho opravdova laska ale nebylo Nemecko, ale Praha. Tak se mu toto mesto zalibilo, ze tam jezdil skoro kazdy vykend. 30.leden byl jeden z “prazskych vychazek”, kdy si s kamarady zasel na hru paintballu. A protoze mel taky par tech pivecek, rozhodl se, ze prespi v aute, ktere bylo zaparkovane na Ceskomoravske ulici, Praze 9. Jak se tak ukladal k spanku, opili policajt po sluzbe se zacne rozcilovat nad tim, jak pry spatne zaparkoval. Tak vojaka svymi obscennimi slovy namichne, ze z toho je rvacka. Zatim tato situace neni nic zvlastniho, ze? Pote ale opily polda vytahne nuz a 3-krat Mika bodne do srdce a zpusobi mu zraneni, kteremu take o par minut pozdeji podlehne. A co si myslite, ze se stalo potom? I kdyz byl straznik diky tomuto incidentu z prace propusten, vraha soudce pustil za par dni na svobodu. Neni tedy divu, ze se lide proti tomuto nedbalemu rozhodnuti bouri a vyzaduji si, aby nasilnik podstoupil poradnemu vysetrovani. Je totiz klidne mozne – a take velmi pravdepodobne – ze opusti republiku a nikdy se jiz nevrati.

Evropane maji v oblibe smat se blaznivym americkym soudnim procesum. I kdyz se tam blazniva soudni rozhodnuti tu a tam najdou (pani dostane miliony za spaleni se horkym Mcdonnaldovskym kafem) pravdou je, ze vestina technto soudnich vysetrovani jsou velmi dukladna. Doufejme tedy, ze si z toho ceske soudy vemou priklad, a pekne toho chlapka prosetri.
