I love good coffee. I love it so much that I worked (slaved) at Starbucks for 3 years. I love it so much that every time I go back to Prague I am willing to travel miles to taste a good cup. I am now going to tell you about the best coffee shop in Prague (or at least the outskirts) that I have found so far. The atmosphere is great, the service is very friendly and most of all, the cappuccino is out of this world. The place is called the Kavarna u Zlateho koralku (“Coffeehouse by the golden pearl“) and it is located in Jilove u Prahy. True, it is not in the center of the city, it takes about 30 – 45 minutes to get there via public transportation, but it is well worth the travel. The coffee shop itself stands in a former 16th century cellar and before that the same space belonged to a monastery. Now back to the coffee business: if you order a cappuccino the espresso shots are never burnt, they taste creamy and sweet, never overly acidic. The milk is steamed to perfection and the beverage is topped with a wonderfully thick foam. The final touch is a heart that the barrista makes on the top of the foam and – of course – couldn’t forget the Italian biscuit served on the side. The reason why the coffee beverages are so delicious is that the strikingly attractive (at least according to my husband -who I smacked quite hard after he shared his opinion on the matter) owner Petra Vesela – who is also the barrista and the server – is a well-known coffee master. She won the first place of Mistr Kavy 2005 (“Master of Cofffee 2005”) and was selected to represent the Czech Republic at the World Barrista Championship which was held in Switzerland in 2006. For those who hate coffee this magical place is not just a coffee house but also an art gallery as well as a jewelry store. Petra is not only the master of coffee and a pleasant waitress, but she also makes very beautiful jewelry pieces such as earings, necklesses and bracelets. I guess the question is what it is that Petra doesn’t do?? Suprisingly, she doesn’t make her wonderful desserts – she orders them. But a true entrepreneur indeed.

Mam moc rada kvalitni kafe. Tedy k tomu kapucinu: espresso neni nikdy spalene, naopak ma velmi sladkou a kremovou chut; mleko ma perfektni teplotu a cely napoj je pak dokonceny hustou penou do ktere sama barista vytvori kavove srdicko.
