This is one of those sentimental posts again so get your handkerchiefs ready. Here are some of those top runners who back then broke almost every girl’s heart:
- Pavel Hornak
- Karel Gott
- Michal David
- Elan
- and others…..
Well they certainly have the 80’s look..that was everywhere (even i had fluffy hair)! But really, where is Boy George, Blondie, Madonna, Ozzy..best decade for music! I had no idea what was happening back in the “old country”..thanks for the chuckle Tanya!!!
No Pavel Hornak byl takovy ten dnesni Justin Bieber :).

Jinak tvoje mama mela rada Jandu, moje mama zase Karla Zycha :))
My favorites are from 1982 Stanislav Hložek/Petr Kotvald’s holky z nasi skolky and another one I just can’t remember. There are some videos on youtube which are fun to watch.
Holky z nasi skolky is definitely a great hit too, probably one of the biggest ones. Not sure why because the words and melody are kind of simple.
My older brother always listened to the ‘progressive’ Western music. Although the choices were quite limited, he listened to Genesis and Pink Floyd (and other stuff I can’t remember now) – and of course I copied him in everything.
bez ostudy ukradeny pisne 🙂
ale Zagorku a Kaju mam rada. Vydela jsem ho pred par lety kdyz prijel do Vancouvru.
One of these songs was popular in the United States as “I Want to Know Where Love Is”. My favorite song in Spanish was “Eres tu” from 1974 by a Spanish group. I’ve never heard any Czech Pop, Adult Contemporary or Rock until today. All I have heard is “Kde Domov Muj?” and a bunch of polkas (Yuck!) I don’t care for polkas. Spatne Budka!
Mark, there are some really good Czech songs!
Just to start with, here is:
NEDVEDI song: http://youtu.be/6ROa5TE8kXQ
Then there is Karel KRYL song: http://youtu.be/jncRHYuBx-Q
Marta KUBISOVA – http://youtu.be/A4lWb2lQ20A
And something more contemporary – Dan BARTA: http://youtu.be/sBWJmnQ86zA
I will look into you suggestions. What I look for in a song from the 1970s and 1980s is melody (someone who knows something about music, chord structure and unique harmony). Words that are lyrical or poetic that speak of a man’s love for woman or of the beauty of the landscape. It can be any style from Barry Manilow to REO Speedwagon or Journey type music. I am a Hopeless Romantic at heart and too much of a fool for women to show much interest, like in “Lonesome Loser” by Little River Band. I’m a big Dan Fogelberg fan. Who is Budka Sulfera? Jarmila in Brno talks about him or it, but she is in her 70s. Worth listening to?
Ahoj! Marek
