Do you like places like Disneyland? Go and see the new fairytale land in Prague! The all-year exhibition shows off solely Czech fairytale themes, such as Pernikova chaloupka (Gingerbread house), Sipkova Ruzenka (Rose princess), Dlouhy siroky a bistrozraky, O vetrnikovi a mesicnikovi and other Czech classics.
Although the new museum was build in the place of an old laundry room in Zizkov, the whole construction cost about 7 milion crowns. One can see expensive reproductions of 3-meter tall mochomurkas (a poisonous Czech mushroom), a 5-meter tall tree stump (with dangerous gangmen living in it) or a life-size gingerbread house with some cool witch sound effects coming out from within. Among other attractions, you can also experience a ‘real-life’ Czech hell!

CZ: Libi se vam ‘poutove’ parky jako je Disneyland nebo Legoland? Ted je tu neco lepsiho a navic ceskeho! Na Zizkove totiz vykvetlo krasne pohadkove ralovstvi pro deti! Patronkou projektu je samotna Dada Patrasova, ktera by tu do budoucna mela mit take svou zizalu Julii. Pohadkove museum bylo vybudovane v prostoru byvale zizkovske pradelny, ale jeho ”vybavicka’ stala kolem 7 milionu korun. Za tuto cenu se navstevnici mohou kochati s trimetrovymi mochomurkami, petimetrovym parezem (pribytek pro loupezniky), nebo s pernikovou chaloupkou v opravdove velikosti a dalsimi kouzelnymi vytvory. Pohadkove kralovstvi ozivuje pohadky ryze ceske, tedy Sipkovou Ruzenku, Dlouheho, sirokeho a bystrozrakeho, hloupeho Honzu, o Mesicnikovi a vetrnikovi a dalsi.

I love Czech pohadky…although I wish I could remember them enough to re-tell them to my kids now. Does anyone remember the one about the cup that overflowed with ‘kasa’?? Is that a real CZech story…coz i saw a rendition of it on the Barney Cartoon and they had a cup that overflowed with popcorn…wonder if they stole the idea from the Czechs!?
OH, I wish I knew at least a week ago. I have three days before we have to go back to states. I do not think I have enough time to take the kids to the museum. Hell, I would love to see this 🙂 Oh well, next year.
Hrnicku var! Tak tu si poustime taky dost casto. Nevim jestli je original ceska. Je pravda ze nejen Barnie ale i jine programy vypravi pohadky o kterych jsem si dost dlouho myslela ze jsou opravdu jen v Cechach. At je to O pernikove chaloupce, O trech kuzlatkach nebo Cervena Karkulka. Ale vzdy kdyz slysim tyto pohadky v jinem jazyce tak jsou uplne jine. Proc se babicka s Karkulkou schovaji ve skrini pred vlkem a on se jen vyspi v posteli po te co zbodnul svacinku? Nebo proc ho hajny jen vyprasi? Takze at ty pohadny pochazi od kud chteji, ty nase jsou NEJLEPSI A NEJORIGINALNEJSI A NEJVTIPNEJSI.
I remember the folk tale. It is called Hrnecku Var! or Cook, Mug, Cook! It is a Czech fairy tale written by Karel Jaromir Erben. The story is about very poor widow and her daughter. The daughter shares her last bread with an old woman. The old woman gives her a magic mug in return and tells the daughter not forget the magic words: Cook, Mug, Cook! and Stop, Mug, Stop! One day the daughter goes to sell eggs and her mother just cannot wait for her to come home. So she tells the mug to cook. But she does not know how to stop the mug from cooking. The mug eventually floods the whole village with the cream of wheat. When the daughter comes home late in the evening she stops the mug from cooking and makes sure it never leaves her side again.

some end with the mug to never be found. There was so much cram of wheat everywhere, that the farmers had to eat their way tru when they came home form the fields in the evening. 🙂

OK, so I have looked and looked for the English translation of “Hrnecku var” on the internet and I could not find any!!!! If you guys happen to find it somewhere let me know!
I was just in a little village near Pribram called Picin (really!) and someone turned their house and yard into something very similar to what you are writing about, Tanja. It is called Pohadkovy svet and it is full of fairies, “underwatermen”, and other creatures. I would have added pictures but don’t know how. It was really neat, though.
That’s rough, fairytale land in Picin :)) But I guess the name is like a rude version of Kocourkov – also a fairytale town
There is a house in Lany that has fairytale all over it. But it is just somebody’s house. It is neat to walk by and see all of them. I really like Vodnik. “Voooooooooooodnik, a rika mi Fando”. Kdo si pamatuje z jake pohadky to je?
