image taken from www.sficg2008.orgIf you are in a mood of being helpful to our world without being paid, the 42nd International Children’s Games in San Francisco is looking for volunteer Czech translators. The games will be held on July 10-15th and are expecting a Czech team coming from Cesky Krumlov. This year’s SFICG event is hosting children from 90 cities, 50 countries and 6 contintents! So, if you don’t show up our kids will just end up racing in the opposite direction because they didn’t know what the referee was saying….;-)

The biggest fish ever caught by a Czech guy! / Nejvetsi ryba na svete chycena Cechem!

Jakub with his new record-size catfish / www.ceskenoviny.cz imageA world-known fisherman (and also the son of a famous Czech musician and producer, Karel Vagner) Jakub Vagner recently completed another record: while on his trip to Amazonia, Jakub caught a 190 kilograms (419 lb) catfish which is to be the biggest sweet-water fish ever caught. Not only did the fish “flew by” for over 400 meters before Jakub managed to even slow this thing down but the the size of this fish also destroyed all of his fishing gear as well as his hands…but it was well worth it. A Slovak Hockey star escaped death / Hokejova hvezda Richard Zednik unikl smrti

Zednik google imageA Slovak hockey player, Richard Zednik, who plays for the Florida Panthers lost 5 units of blood on Sunday after the player had his carotid artery cut by a teammate’s skate in a freak accident. After an hour long surgery Zednik is in a stable condition now. From the amount of blood that was covering the ice on that day people thought that he had actually cut the jugular vain as it was the case in 1989 with another hockey player, Clint Malarchuk. Skiing competition at the Prague Castle?! / Lyzarska soutez na Prazskem Hrade?

Prague Castle / www.tour-de-ski.comPrague was selected as one of the 3 European countries to be the hosting city of this year’s Tour de Ski. The day before the race the organizers started to import 2,000 cubic meters (about 71,000 cubic feet) of snow onto the surface of Hradcanske Square through the streets of Prague Castle and other streets of historical Prague 1. The next part of the Tour de Ski race is being held today at Nove Mesto (Moravia), one of the most famous winter sport resorts in the Czech Republic. The competition will be further continued in Germany (Oberstdorf) and Italy (Asiago and Val di Fiemme). (more…)

Podle casopisu Xantipa se nejvetsim mrtvim zijicim Cechem zijicim v zahranici stala Martina Navratilova, na druhem miste se umistil kdo jiny nez Milos Forman. Co se tyce nezijicich Cechu, tak na prvnim miste se umistil chudak Jan Amos Komensky (nezil v exilu??), druhe misto si nepamatuji a na tretim miste se umistil nas oblibeny Alfons Mucha.
