One of my friends told me about this Czech TV program called ‘Ctyri v New Yorku’ (Four in New York), which is a heart-felt documentary about 4 Czech women who have immigrated to the USA later in their life and how hard it was for them to get adjusted to a completely different way of life.

I have had a chance to watch only the first 2 women (both are involved in art) and both films are phenomenal. You won’t be able to stop watching it! The only downside is that the movies load really slow so there are long breaks where you just wait for the movie to start playing again :(

The movies are in Czech – sorry! BUT I did translate some of the sentences which resonated with me:

CZ: Jedna ma kamaradka mi doporucila VYBORNY dokument ceske televize, zvany Ctyri v New Yorku. Urcite se na nej podivejte a pripravte se, ze to s vami citove zamava.

First lady: MONIKA ABBOTT…..(emigrated to the USA at the age of 38)

Today I am bringing you something on the lighter note. The following video makes fun of the state of the Czech health care. It is in Czech so I apologize to those who do not understand the language. In short, the Czech health care is going through some troubling times and a comedian, Zdenek Izer, is making fun of it. The patient in the video comes to the doctor’s office but ends up basically treating herself. [click to continue…]

The Czech Daily Word wrote yesterday about the famous singing competition – the Czech Idol (Czechs call it Superstar). This time the producers decided to put Slovak and Czech competitors together so there is a lot of talent. And as Peter Boruvka remarked, they are all very good looking! What made my brain hurt (since I am not used to it) is when I was watching the black guy  singing in Czech! How amazing that the Czech Republic has become so multicultural!

[click to continue…]

The website is called Stream.cz and it shows anything from news, TV shows and celebrity lifestyle to music, sport and children shows…and the picture is clear! No more inferior YouTube videos that kill your eyesight!

google Gray's anatomy imageWhenever Jamie writes me an e-mail, the content is so good that I just have to post it (of course, with Jamie’s consent)! What a fun topic!

CZ: Pokazde, kdyz mi Jamie posle e-mail, stoji to za to. Jeho obsah je vzdycky tak zajimavy, ze  se s vami o nej proste musim podelit (samozrejme ze se souhlasem Jamieho).

Hey, Tanja!

If you want some fun, go to the TV Prima website, look at the “Zahranicni serialy” (Foreign TV shows) and try to figure out why some titles are translated, and why some aren’t. And why some of them are translated the way they are. I did this last night, and here is what I wrote to a friend about it: [click to continue…]

Popelka google image What Czech actor (dead or alive) has made the biggest impression on the Czech audience? The results are not surprising (at least for me):

CZ: Kdo je nejoblibenejsim hercem/hereckou vsech dob? Vysledky nejsou zdaleka prekvapujici…
