Vaclav Havel’s play is a great success / Havlova hra se stala velkym uspechem May 26, 2008

Havel’s play Odchazeni /www.ceskenoviny.cz imageThe opening night of ex-president Vaclav Havel’s new play Odchazeni (Leaving) turned out to be a great success. It is a story of a prominent politician who is ending his term in the office and all of the drama that goes with it. In this particular play was Havel inspired by such masterpieces as Cechov’s Cherry Orchard or Shakespeare’s King Lear. The play preparations went very smooth until the lead actress, Dagmar Havlova (Havel’s current wife), quit due to health reasons. (more…)

Eurovision Song contest 2008: Kerndlova is going home / Kerndlova se neumistila v Eurovision Song Contest 2008 May 23, 2008

Tereza Kerndlova / www.ceskenoviny.cz imageTereza Kerndlova, the 21-year old daughter of a famous Czech jazz musician Ladislav Kerndl, did not make it into the Eurovision 2008 finals. The performing song called “Have some fun” have gotten her far enough mostly for her looks then the actual singing (see the YouTube video bellow). Teresa and her dancer crew even received a nickname from her fellow contestants - the Czech Beuties! Out of the 43 competing European countries only Serbia, France, Great Britain and Spain made to the semi-finals. (more…)

calendar yahoo image Here is the Calendar of Czech activities for May 08 (click here). What can you look forward to this month? How about a concert of Marketa Irglova? Or the traditional Czech “Houby” festival? The list offers something for everyone….

I also added couple of activities for Czechs/Slovaks living in the UK (couldn’t find anything for our folks living in Australia or New Zealand :-((

 Na co “ceskeho” se muzete testit tento mesic? Co treba koncert Markety Irglove? Anebo tradicni Houbovy festival? Posudte sami…. Take jsem tentokrat pridala nejake ty ceske akce konajici se v Anglii - bohuzel jsem nenasla zadne ceske akcicky pro ty, co ziji v Australii nebo na novem Zelandu :-((

New Czech school in London / Nova ceska skola v Londyne April 12, 2008

SCHOOL YAHOO IMAGECzech moms living in London - there is a hope! In about a week a new Czech school called The Kids Art Club is opening up on Lough Road. So if your child is 6 years of age or older and has nothing to do on Saturdays, this should keep him/her busy….For more info click here. (more…)
