Czechs rank no.1 in colon cancer / Cesi jsou s rakovinou tlusteho streva na prvnim miste

colon diagram google imageCzechs together with Hungarians suffer the most with the  colon-rectal cancer – they are actually currently number one in the world. According to the Czech Gastrointestinal Society the Czechs have this type of cancer actually coded in their genes. How is that possible? The biggest playing factor is their bad eating habits – especially their weakness for very fattening foods – something that has been going on in the Czech Republic for centuries. Unhealthy cooking has been in fact with our culture for so long that it changed the genetic coding of the Czech gene pool altogether  and now we are paying for it (thanks a lot, great-great-great-grandma!). “If all of a sudden the whole Czech society decided to become vegetarian it will still take 2 to 3 generations for the sensitive genome to even out with the genomes of the other nations,” says Miroslav Zavoral, the vice-president of the Czech gastrointestinal society.

Czech male are even at a bigger risk than female, making them the number one colon-rectal cancer victims in the world (Czech women still rank within the first 10 places), meaning that every one of them – who is 50 years old or older – has a 6% chance of getting the colon-rectal cancer. Every year there are 8,000 to 8,500 new cases. The only way how one can stay healthy in this direction is to do stool tests once one turns 50 years old. Even a better diagnoses is via colonoscopy, which can be also ordered by your primary doctor.

My own grandpa died of this disease and I know many other Czechs who were either directly or indirectly effected by it. Therefore it is important to take this seriously and keep up with your preventative exams!

I think it’s one of the diseases killing Americans.

On the other hand, the Brits and Koreans have more stomach cancer problem.

    Ahoj Tanja,

Nice article. Here are two related articles. The first,http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/default.asp?page=119 , is a general overview of the genes and cancer. The other addresses the relation of diet and cancer, http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/default.asp?page=120 . This research is being coordinated on a world wide basis,

To obtain a pdf copy of the full text a few specific research reports would cost $32 each. So we must accept on faith that fatty foods cause more cancer in Czech men than, say, beer does. The second article points out that alcohol is one of the causes of cancer. This type of research is very important to everyone. It should not be restricted only for institutional libraries.

    Slán,
    Albert
