The foreigner is trippin’ again! / Ulety jednoho cizince

weird licence plate image My husband and I went to the movies the other day and I came across this license plate that said ‘PHROGUE‘ (see image above).I instantly enthusiastically exclaimed: “Look, this person is from Prague!!”. My husband gave me an empathetic smile and said:”That means ‘Frog’, honey”.

Oh well, sometimes it’s hard to live in a body of a foreigner…..

No jo, nekdy je tezke zit v tele cizince…..

If you liked this post buy me a coffee! (Suggested:$3 a latte $8 for a pound) Thanks!

I know, what you mean Tanja. I used to get mixed-up with the flag of Philippines.

Marika. This is just too funny. Not you. But I know exactly what you mean. I did a presentation on Czech Republic at my daughter’s school last year. When I told the teacher I would like to do a craft with the children as part of the presentation (right after they watched Krtek 🙂 ) and I was thinking coloring in Czech flag, she offered a book. This was a book with ALL the flags from 1994. What was my surprise when I looked up the Czech flag I of course the colors were wrong and what was it in the triangle? And of course the czech flag was under the Philippines. As I turned the pages, there was two more flags that were flopped. I cannot remember who published it, but good job to the special proof reader. 🙂

Lenka, that is funny but sad at the same time. I wish the standards taught in public schools would include basic geography. It is pretty sad when somebody asks you where are you from, and you say Czech Republic. And the person’s respond is that’s capital city of Hungary right?

  • lenka September 26, 2009, 11:15 am

That is sad indeed. I usually get the concerend look after I tell people where I come from with the question “Is everybody OK, you know the war and all”. I gave up.

haha I have similar experiences. Well,it is a good training in humility and grace 🙂

When I am asked where I am from, I respond “from Czech Republic” and at the same time I give them a history and geography lesson to explain, why we Czech people exist and people appreciate it and next week, they are really worried, if something blows up in Spain… You know, it is so close !

Since my family has ties to the following countries: Czech, Russia, Sweden, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and USA, I guess, I will put flags of all these countries on back of my car. It will look like mobile United Nations 😉
