Nebraska Czechs found their new Queen /Cesi z Nebrasky korunovali svou novou kralovnu

York News-Times image of Missy VavraWhat qualities do you have to posses to become the Czech queen of Nebraska? “She must be an intelligent young woman who possesses dignity, poise and personality. She must exhibit youthful charm, character and wholesomeness. It helps, too, to be a good extemporaneous speaker” (…not that easy after all!).

This year’s Queen became Missi Vavra, a student at UNL who plans to become a registered dietitian. Read up more on Missy right here (click here).

I would have NEVER thought in a gazillion years my hometown newspaper would be a link on a blog site. I know, yes, some where out in the world wide web some one at some time had probably linked to the paper but I have never read those blogs/websites!

I love reading your experiences and news pieces posted!

    Hi Melissa,

See miracles happen! 🙂 Although, this is a very important event in Nebraska, no?

By the way, thank you so much for your compliment!

This is actually when Missy Vavra was crowned the York Czech Slovak Queen. This is the first step in the process in Nebraska. Some states have at large contestants in the national pageant but in Nebraska you must win a local title then the state title to go onto the national pageant. There were 7 chapters represented in the state pageant. Missy from the Nebraska Czechs of York(pictured above) won the Miss Congeniality and Talent Award. Emmy from the Omaha Czech Cultural Club won 1st Runner Up. And I represented the Nebraska Czechs of Lincoln and won the Personal Interview, Kroj, and Oratory Awards and was crowned the 2009-10 Nebraska Czech-Slovak Queen and will compete in the national pageant next year.
