And the all-time favorite Czech food is…/ A nejoblibenejsi ceske jidlo je….

Czech food yahoo imageThe “My Czech Republic” website did a poll on people’s favorite Czech meal and here are the results:

1. Beef goulash with dumplings (Hovezí guláš s knedlíkem) – 18% [27 people ]
2. Beef sirloin with dumplings and vegetable cream sauce (Svícková na smetane, knedlík) – 21% [ 32]
3. The winner: Roast pork, dumplings and sauerkraut (“vepro-knedlo-zelo”) – 28% [42 ]

4. Roasted duck with sauerkraut and dumplings (Pe?ená kachna se zelím a knedlíkem) 14% – [ 21 ]
5. Pork schnitzel with mashed potatoes (Smažený veprový rízek s bramborovou kaší) 10% – [ 15 ]
6. Other – 8% [ 13 ]
(Total Votes : 150)

I personally voted for Svickova, simply because it is the best meal on this planet. It really should be added to the McDonnald’s menu (especially since the founder of McDonnald’s – Ray Kroc – was Czech!) so that I could just do the “drive-through” when I feel like eating Svickova for lunch.

The people who voted for “other” (13 of them) specified their folowing favorite meals as followed:

1. Fried cheese with tomatoes (What the heck is that???)

2. Fried cheese with ketchup (???)

3. Fruit dumplings (yeah!!)

4. Sunkafleky (Ham-n-noodles; not one of my favorites – it reminds me the school cafeteria times)

How about one of my “Jenny Craig” favorites – slice of bread spread with lard and sprinkled with salt??? Hmmmmm…….

What’s your favorite Czech meal??

I kdyz sadlo uz neni takove jake byvalo.

Jidla chudych. Jedna perlicka… Stouchany brambory se zelim a skvarkama. Samozrejme vsechno vypestovane ci vychovane doma. I kdyz dneska si do toho radeji dam libove uzene. Ale sadlem mastene to musi byt. Nebo ryzova kase. Ryze, hrach a fazole. Poradne promastene maslem. Kdybych nebyla na diete, asi bych sla varit

    Hi Lynda,

I would probably recommend doing Bublanina 🙂 It’s easy and very yummy!!! (you can find the recipe under my “Czech/Slovak recipes” category)I am so flattered your daughter picked the Czech Republic!
Let me know if you have any questions about the recipe…
